YouTube Channel Audit Template

Reusable template for recurring channel health and performance audits.

What this template covers

The YouTube channel audit template is a structured framework for evaluating channel performance across six dimensions: subscriber growth rate, average view duration, CTR benchmark comparison, RPM trend, traffic source distribution, and upload consistency score. Each dimension is scored on a defined rubric so audits remain comparable across months and across channels in a multi-channel operation.

The template is designed for quarterly use in most channels, with a lightweight monthly check-in version for channels publishing five or more times per week. It works with TubeAnalytics dashboard exports or with manually entered YouTube Studio data for channels not yet connected to the platform.

Audit sections and how to complete them

Each audit section maps to a specific data source. The growth section uses 28-day and 90-day subscriber net data alongside views per subscriber ratio. The monetization section uses RPM and CPM trended over the prior three quarters, with a flag if RPM has declined more than 15% quarter-over-quarter. The content section evaluates top-5 and bottom-5 videos by watch time, CTR, and revenue to identify format and topic patterns.

Completing a full audit typically takes 60–90 minutes for a single channel when using TubeAnalytics data exports. The multi-channel version of the template adds a comparison layer that normalizes each metric across channels for portfolio-level pattern recognition.

  • Section 1: Subscriber growth rate vs. niche benchmark
  • Section 2: Average view duration and retention curve shape
  • Section 3: CTR benchmarked against niche and traffic source
  • Section 4: RPM and CPM trend with quarter-over-quarter comparison
  • Section 5: Traffic source distribution and diversification score
  • Section 6: Upload consistency and publish schedule adherence

How to use this template effectively

Run the audit on a fixed schedule β€” quarterly for most channels, monthly for high-volume publishers. Keep completed audits so you can track how scores change over time. A single audit is a snapshot; a series of audits reveals the trend that matters for long-term channel health.

Pair audit findings with TubeAnalytics's channel health score to validate manual observations with algorithmic signals. Discrepancies between your audit assessment and the health score often point to specific metrics that are masking a deeper pattern.
